No more diaper bag! My more portable diaper “pouch” and my new purse.
One day, while weighed down like a pack-mule with all the stuff I have to bring when out with my kids, I had a revelation;
I didn’t really need this much stuff anymore!!
Mostly I was looking at my packed diaper bag and thinking; ‘really, I don’t need to be lugging this around with me.’ Plus, as a self proclaimed bag addict, I was also getting a little sick of carrying the same bag everyday and was ready for a new purse!
With my baby getting older and my older child fully potty trained, we just don’t need everything that was on my original diaper bag check list (but if you still pack a diaper bag, check out my post on what to put in it!)
I didn’t need a nursing cover or bottles or even really a change of clothes any more. (But be sure I ALWAYS have a change of clothes for everyone in the car…someone always needs them eventually.) I didn’t even need as many diapers, as most outings really only require one, if any, diaper change now a days.
AND the freedom of not needing a diaper bag anymore meant I could go PURSE SHOPPING!!
But, my kids still need stuff. So, I decided to put the days necessities in a small pouch that I could then throw in what ever bag I wanted for the day. AND I made sure to update what I keep in the car for those days you need extra diapers or a change of clothes!
- The pouch is a toiletries case from Walgreen’s

The contents
- 2 Diapers-just make sure to restock!
- Slim pack of wipes
- Disposable changing pad
- Plastic Bags-These still get used all the time from dirty diapers to wet clothes to rock collections.
- Sun Block-travel size
- Aquaphor-travel size
- Wet Wipes-gross hands, gross tables
- Small wash cloth-used it the other day to sooth a skinned knee
- Tissues-because like I said before…someone always has a runny nose

Throw the pouch in whatever bag you want!
With this bag always packed, I could just throw it in my purse, beach bag or the bottom of the stroller and we were off! No scrambling around the house to find what we need. And if someone else (like dad or grama) takes the kids somewhere, they can just have the pouch and I can keep my bag.
Now I am off to purse shop!

Gemini Momma - I so want to try this! Actually, can you make me one? I’ll pay for the cost of the stuff plus an extra $10 and I’ll drive to your house to go pick it up. THAT is how certain I am that, even though I love it, I know it will take me weeks to get around to putting it together.
Megan - Brillant! I will totally do this for you. In fact, I have been trying to come up with some “products” that would help the Bump Life community save time, maybe this is it! Prepacked grab-and-go diaper kits….you can be my test market. What size diapers do the girls wear?? I’ll be in touch…
Gemini Momma - I love it! They wear size 4′s, but I can slip those in myself! I was actually doing my grocery shopping today and started to pick out stuff to put a kit together but then I couldn’t find a little travel bag and then I couldn’t find the travel size sunscreen, and then I couldn’t find…. and then I gave up and said “see! I knew I’d never get this together!”
childgearreviews - This is fantastic! I’ve been carrying around the same old big black bag since my wee boy was born… Has everything he could possibly need in it but now like you say he’s that much older so I will be downgrading my huge bag to a more stylish one and putting in what you have said above! Children certainly take over your life!
