I was thinking about support the other day.
When it comes down to it, we all want to feel supported. We all want to feel like someone else has our back, like someone else gets it and that someone else appreciates our efforts.
For Mama CEOs this support and understanding is so important, but it’s hard to come by.
We know our family loves us and appreciates us, but between the “Mom! Where are my soccer cleats” and “Honey, we’re out of barbecue sauce” it’s sometimes hard to feel that they get that we are more than keeping the home running.
Your best friend is just a text message away, but she doesn’t really understand why you are freaking out over your open rates or what a launch calendar is.
There is a saying that you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. When I think about the people who make up that average for me, I know I need someone who gets it. Who gets what it’s like to launch a brand new product while your kids are home on the eleventeenth snow day of the year. Someone who gets what it means to need to ramp up your business revenue when your spouse is in between jobs. Someone who understands that sometimes the homeschool work needs to get get turned in or the sick baby needs extra snuggle time.
Being an entrepreneur is hard and sometimes isolating, and when you are also trying to juggle a family, it can feel like you are the only person in the world trying to do what you do.
Except when you are not.
We are not meant to do this alone. Any of this. Business. Motherhood. Marriage. Even self discovery is more powerful when you have a supportive circle around you.
Three weeks ago I had the pleasure of hosting 12 of my Mama CEO Mastery ladies at our in-person retreat in Palm Springs. We spent three days strategizing our businesses for 2018, talking sales tactics with an amazing guest expert, and writing our business manifestos. There was also plenty of deep conversations while floating in the pool and deep reflection time while doing yoga on the Spanish Deck.
So many ahas were had. Plans to raise prices, to sell to a larger audience, to build new programs and serve in a bigger way.
But the biggest aha?
We are not alone.
“I felt so alone as a solopreneur. It feels really nice to have guidance from Megan, but also the wealth of knowledge and experience from the other women and that sense of community that is so rare, but so vital to have a tribe of people who get it.” – Erika Tebbens
“Amazing connection with amazingly brilliant women.” – Rachael Pontillo
“I’m so not alone in the struggles that most mama entrepreneurs have. I feel like I’m part of a group and that if I need help, there is someone to turn to—not just Megan, but the whole group there for me. I’m so grateful.” Janna Denton- Howes
“My biggest aha from being at the Mama CEO Mastery Retreat was getting space and time for myself to just process what is going on in my business—and to do that with a group of women who are all moms who get what it’s like to balance being a mom with running a business. You don’t get that in your day to day life a lot.” – Beryl Young
So, if you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with, what do you need to do to raise that average—and get the support you need? Who can you reach out to today who understands what you are doing?
Build your circle. Connect with other moms. Connect with other entrepreneurs. And definitely find some other Mama CEOs to connect with. Reach out to those you know. Introduce yourself and set up a virtual coffee date with others in Mama CEO Club. Find your people.
We aren’t meant to do this alone. The good news is: You are not alone. And with the right support you can do anything.
If you would like to join our circle, I’m opening 4 spots in Mama CEO Mastery to the right women who are ready to uplevel their business while being a contributing part of this amazing group.
